May 24th, 2014 was a very happening time for Carrara, Italy.
Golden toilets, private jets chartered for special guests, flowers stacked as high as the mountain with the Carrara marble being flawless!
This was the beautiful ceremony of Kanye West & Kim Kardashian!
Kanye West proclaimed two loves that day. One to Kim and the other love to Carrara marble.
Reportedly at the wedding, he featured some intricately carved, cut and crafted marble piano, grand marble table, and 10 nude black marble statues. These were all material quarried from Carrara, Italy by master quarrier and crafters.
That wasn't the only public display of affection towards marble Kanye West had. Aside from his extravagant wedding details, Kanye reportedly demanded a marble floor for his Saturday night live performance! He said: “If I’m going to sing like a stone, I need to feel the stone.”
This passion for marble continued during an episode of "Keeping up with the Kardashians" January 2015. There was a blowout when Jenner allegedly helped herself to a few marble slabs from Kim's stash. The issue was Kanye wasn't able to complete his bathroom which sparked the huge fight.
Throughout the mountain, there are roughly 164 quarries being mined at the moment.
Carrara has a built an impressive legacy through the centuries just as Kanye West expands his own empire through music, fashion, and maybe politics?
‘The city [of Carrara] lives on marble and its citizens breathe its dust.’
- Dr. Alison Leitch
We have created a list and some fun facts about Carrara marble's history in another blog if you're interested. You can find the link here: http://www.mikolmarmi.com/blogs/news/fun-facts-about-carrara-marble
Carrara sits at the tip of Italy’s Tuscany region, about 62 miles northwest of Florence tucked into the foothills of the Apuan Alps. Mining of the Carrara quarries began more than 2,000 years ago when slaves used chisels and wooden tools to chop off pieces of the block.
The approximately 64,000 inhabitants of the region are passionate about their relation to one of the world’s greatest natural wonders.
“The city lives on marble and its citizens breathe its dust,” Leitch wrote in her thesis. She noted that the people of Carrara believe the calcium carbonate in marble “cleans and purifies the lungs.
One hundred sixty-four quarries are mined throughout the mountains, generating dozens upon dozens of different kinds of marble, distinguished from one another by their color and veining. Statuario marble, for which Carrara is most revered, forms from pure limestone. The darker varieties tend to have impurities, such as clay, that mix in during metamorphism. Calacatta is one of the rarest and most expensive kinds, which is identified by its thicker veins.
While there are hundreds of marble mines across the globe (from China to India to Vermont), Carrara has produced not only the most marble in the world but the most desirable slabs. For 2000 years, Carrara has been the epicenter of marble production and craftsmanship that was passed on from generation to generation.
One of or close partners that does installation work with us in the U.S. is the Castellucci family who has been in the business for over 200 years with roots in Italy.
As Kanye West and Carrara's continue to make history, they both come from a tumultous past.
A Chicago native, West dropped out of college with no future ahead of him. But as it turns out, he proved everyone wrong by all the accomplishments and being one of the greatest recording artists of the 21st century.
Just as West, the surrounding areas of Carrara was in an anarchic state during the 19th century. An anarchist group nearby Avanza in 1885 was founded Belgian and Swiss revolutionaries.
The Italian minister Francesco Crispi declared a state of emergency in January 1894. This revolution would later be known as the Lunigiana revolt.
Even after the dust settled with the revolt, many radical spirits still remained around Carrara. Quarrymen would go on strikes to improve working conditions. Finally, in 1968, the International of Anarchist Federations was founded in Carrara, Italy.
Carrara marble has had many, many love stories, from artisans to architects to authors, this beautiful rich white wavy stone has attracted all types.
The Pantheon, London’s Marble Arch, the Oslo Opera House, the Peace Monument in Washington, DC, Damien Hirst’s “Anatomy of an Angel,” Rome’s Trajan’s Column, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, the interior of the Freedom Tower — all created with marble from Carrara. Even Dante Alighieri cited Carrara in “Inferno,” the first part of his epic poem “Divine Comedy.”
“I mean taste, culture, art, just the quality in life,” West said on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” in 2013. Which we can't agree more. Marble has it all, taste, culture, art, and quality of life that it represents!
Even Osama bin Laden’s family wanted a piece of the historic quarries, who purchased a company that owned a third of the Carrara quarries in August 2014.
The third largest construction company in the world is Saudi's Binladin Group. Osama's father founded the company in 1931. In 1994, Osama was disowned by his family and expelled from all company proceedings.
The list of marvels continues with Carrara marble. One of the most notable features is Michelangelo's famed sculpture of David carved out of Carrara marble when he was 26 years old.
“This is the type of impact I wanna make on the Earth,” West — who has compared himself to Michelangelo at least half a dozen times — also said on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.
It's ok Kanye! We feel the same way =)
Michelangelo once said, “I see the angel in the marble and set it free.”
A block of the Carrara white marble had been sitting in Florence for decades before Michaelangelo carved David.
“People could want so many things out of you and you don’t want to let people down because of Michelangelo comments and things,” West told SHOWstudio. “You want to deliver genius.”
With our ever-evolving world, Carrara will have some challenges reinventing itself with our technological and modern shift while preserving its rich stories and tradition.
“We want to innovate and we will win someday,” West tweeted in February 2015.
“What I care about is history,” West said on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” in February 2014.
There are several reasons why we chose to work with natural marble, and one of them Kanye West hits hard on. "What I care about is history"
What makes a marble case stand out is the history it carries. To match the case, I like to wear a Carrara white marble dog tag that has my name engraved on it as a specialty piece.

At MIKOL, we really appreciate and enjoy what nature has to offer us. Majority of our products are based on the natural characteristics of marble and built around that beauty.
We love luxury and fancy places, but it doesn't mean you need to overspend for that. And sometimes when a bunch clever marketing, overblown hype and crowd infested wallet grabbers build it up, the place loses its real shimmer. But everyone is different! No judging!
We believe true beauty isn’t defined by the amount of extravagance and amenities that blow your mind. True beauty is a feeling, an emotional connection you feel with the place, product, or environment. That beauty should not just be aesthetically pleasing, but also alive in you! It's beyond what words can describe!
It's those moments you find when you come across a really cool product that you can't wait to share with your friends and family. Or that experience you had on a trip that was so exhilarating, you couldn't wait to get back and encourage everyone to go because it was so life changing! Sharing the experience, whatever the experience is. It’s just something pictures and videos can’t ever capture, no matter how high-definition the quality. Here’s a list of 6 exotic, thought-blanking islands that haven't been stampeded to death by heavy foot traffic.
A celebrity destination that frees your spirit, relaxing on bungalows that sit just above the clear-as-a-pool water ocean. Water that’s bright as the sun shines, and the tropical islands that surround you leave your jaw open. That moment of disbelief that you are in paradise. Seeing mountains far as the eye can see. Luscious lagoons everywhere you turn…and the sands on beaches that are so white you just can’t believe this was naturally created.
There won't be any sleeping in, because you are body and mind is filled with excitement. Each morning you awake, you feel energized, happy that you are in such a heavenly place. Not to mention the fact that Bora Bora belongs to French Polynesia, in the Pacific Ocean. And, best of all – the place is shaped like a sombrero!
Iles Sanguinaires is an island near Ajaccio, France. Famous for its sprawl-across-the-sky purple sunsets, which always inspire both sea and sky to bleed… Illes Sanguinaires sets volcanic rocks aglow during these ravenous, remember-forever sunsets.
Aside from the gorgeous environment, this place is a stone’s throw away the headland at Pointe de la Parata (often called ‘one of France’s grand sites’).
One of the best part, is that you get to walk around the entire island as a tour. This isn’t for the faint-hearted. Wander around far enough and you’ll reach Petit Capo beach – a part of Corsica, littered with beautiful multi-colored seas. Plus, it has a beach bar. CNN.com lists it as one of the “gorgeous Mediterranean islands you’ve never heard of.”
This is a very special island that is filled with all sorts of wildflowers that cover its land. The word "flores" means flower in Portuguese. A flower island that's paradise in the middle of the Atlantic.
Most of the food comes right from the ocean (which is pure as can be – and certainly healthier to eat marine life from than American/Canadian waters). Bluefish bream, snapper, amberjack, conger eels, mackerel, and much more.
Saipan is actually an island that’s a part of America. The island is located in Micronesia (which is north of Guam, south of Japan, east of the Philippines, and west of Hawaii), and not many people know about it. Much less is known about its complicated history after WWII.
Do you enjoy a bit of free-spirit dancing with your drinks and celebrations? There’s a yearly Flame Tree Festival you can celebrate. Earth-lovers can lose themselves in Saipan’s “flame trees” – which bloom fire-bright orange in the Spring. If you’re bold and daring you can go for a sweat-dripping hike up the cliff charmingly named the “Suicidal Cliff…” or you can explore the Bird Island or…the Forbidden Island. (Wonder why they called it that…?)
Palau has several small little islands to hop around in one day and enjoy the warm water, and beautiful nature. Due to the outer reef structure, currents, tidal conditions, and magnificent walls, Palau accommodates both beginner and advanced divers, depending on where you go. Try swimming with wild sharks, mantas and fish waiting regardless of who you dive with
Up until now, those islands were less touristy than mainstream islands that have been trampled to death. Now there are a few islands even rarer, less packed, but those seem to be more for the locals. Wifi is not very good on this island, which in a way is good for most of us to unplug and really relax.
Puerto Rico’s best-kept secret, Culebra plays home to thousands of national wildlife… and crazy parties, camps, and dancing along the gorgeous hot-white sands.
The bar you need to check out is Mamacita’s, where the blender never stops, and the cast of characters is something out of a Kerouac novel. Have some rum and let yourself loose – you’d be among great company here. And when the nightlife (that only locals know about) tires you out, the amount of 3-star and 5-star hotels are more than roomy enough for you to refuel your batteries.
Even the hotel above Mamacita’s bar… the windows are soundproof! The party is that loud and roaring, ripe for crazy people to off their souls and put the pedal to the metal and LIVE!

It's been 2 months since the release of the new iPhone 7. Just as Apple has enhanced the iPhone 7's capabilities. We have also upgraded the luxury marble iPhone 7 case as well.
As you can see in the above photo of the Carrara white iPhone 7 and Nero Marquina iPhone 7 Plus. We have made some slight modifications to the design, not just to fit the iPhone 7 model, but also to create a more fluid appearance with the wavy outline of the marble.
Beginnings of the Marble iPhone 6 Case
The iPhone 6 cases were the first luxury tech accessories MIKOL introduced. And since the public wasn't aware of our advanced processing technology of ultra thin marble goods, our designers decided to use a TPU material for the iPhone 6 casing.
TPU has a softer appearance that lays between rubber and plastic. This way, visually the case may "appear lighter". Consumers are generally drawn in by a product's visuals without understanding the technology. And many have simply associated marble being heavy without understanding why it is?
Therefore, we needed to create a product that appeared light, so our customers will look further in how we managed to create a lightweight durable natural marble case.
TPU provides a good grip for users and has a bit more shock protection and durability compared to silicon. Changing the TPU ratio of each reaction component can get different levels of hardness in the product. The TPU cases are good in elasticity and abrasion resistance. High tensile strength, elongation, long-term low compression permanent deformation rate are the obvious advantages of TPU.
TPU has many applications including automotive instrument panels, caster wheels, power tools, sporting goods, medical devices, drive belts, footwear, inflatable rafts, and a variety of extruded film, sheet and profile applications
Marble iPhone 7 Case Upgrade
Now that people know about our processing ability, and understand MIKOL can produce natural marble as thin as a credit card without it being fragile. Our design team has decided to upgrade our casing even more to compliment the natural marble.
MIKOL's new iPhone 7 cases are made with polycarbonate that adds more density and durability without affecting the weight of the iPhone.
Polycarbonate is much stronger material, and is often used to make toys, storage containers, eye glasses and even bulletproof glass. So you can be sure that it is durable. The polycarbonate is designed to resist the impact and disperse the shock of the fall.
The polycarbonate is designed to resist the impact and disperse the shock of the fall.
And lastly, we have opened up the sides where the volume button is for easier removal of the case to change colors.
Your iPhone 7 is like Tony Stark with a new Iron Man suit upgraded in looks and capabilities!
Hope you enjoy!

The world we live in now urges society to bring us this invisible pressure that we need to be someone else. Seeing celebrities live their lifestyle or big brand names influencing our thoughts of who we need to become has made many of us displeased with ourselves and feel the need to "fit in" with the crowd.
Being comfortable with yourself, being unique and different is actually an even better feeling than working so hard to be someone you aren't.
If you're a like-able person, then those people who appreciate you for who you are is more valuable than being around a group of phonies and pretending to be someone else.
Let go! Be free!
Every person is different and special in their own way. We all come from different cultural and family backgrounds. The way we think, talk, learn, pray, live, believe, act is all different than others. We would be like robots if everyone were the same. How boring is that?!
The best part about friendship is that everyone thinks and acts differently. We all have something special to contribute. Do what makes your soul happy. You’re in control of your life. Live it to the fullest! Why should you waste your time trying to keep up with new trends when you’d rather make your own?
The same mentality can be applied in business as well. Look at what MIKOL produces: Notebook journal, iPhone cases, bow ties, men's tie clip, cufflinks and business cards.
These items have been around for decades! In the luxury market, items such as the notebook and iPhone case would be produced in leather. Bow ties would be made in some high quality fabric; tie bar and cufflinks in either stainless steel, silver or gold. And business cards would be your generic paper cards.
But where is the fun in that?! Plus, we love how beautiful and elegant natural marble stone feels and looks. That's essentially how MIKOL was born! With the lack of care concerning the current trend, MIKOL focused on what we wanted to do with what we love and what we thought was beautiful.
If you’re under the impression that someone doesn’t like you for you, that’s perfectly okay. It’s not your fault they can’t see all the wonderful things about you! You should never feel like you have to change who you are in order to fit into a crowd. Know that you will always be unhappy with yourself if you constantly compare yourself to others, and try to please everyone you meet. Why do we constantly waste our time and energy on trying to be someone we aren’t, just to please people? Because you aren't that person, you will be never be satisfied with who you are.
At MIKOL, we face the same issues as an individual does. We get criticisms from commoners about our products being different. We hear how MIKOL products are impractical since it's made from natural marble, and therefore it must be fragile and heavy. Or how we are too expensive compared to normal business cards, iPhone cases, notebooks etc.
But these type of people that also tend to miss the beauty and refined artistic characters one has. They've missed out on how the marble has been specially processed to a thinness of a credit card, yet reinforced for strength.
People think marble, and assume it's heavy. It's almost the same as assuming marble and granite buildings are built from large blocks, because that's the method used by the Egyptians to build pyramids.
We also get criticisms for our products being expensive. Comparatively in the journal and business card market, yes we are definitely a luxury item. But it's the same concept of comparing a Honda Civic to a Rolls Royce. Like a Rolls Royce, we are only focusing on our unique group that appreciates the quality of handcrafted items and natural marble. The group that wants to turn heads and capture attention, rather than blend in the crowd. At the same time, that's why we love what we do - by being ourselves and being different, we are able to attract others that share the same mindset and philosophy.
Through our products and services, we are building a group, a community of people that want to stand out from the crowd, rather than blend in with the crowd.
Each and every one of us is born with unique traits and characteristics that help us shine. Learning to love ourselves for who/what we are is a big challenge, and when people persistently avoid us for being ourselves, it makes it that much harder to embrace our uniqueness. Think about all the weirdos in history that made it great! Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, Einstein, Ghandi, Abraham Lincon, Nelson Mandela all went against the norm and achieved greatness. The ones that blended in the crowd may have achieved success in their own ways, but how many can you remember? I implore you to continue being the best version of yourself you can possibly be. Who knows, you might inspire somebody else to embrace themselves! After all, having one or two good friends that adore you for who you are is much better than having ten or eleven friends who like who you pretend to be.
Have fun! Enjoy life! It's too short to live for someone else. Embrace who you are and attract the people that will appreciate you for who you are, vice versa.

Natural marble business cards! Pretty wild right?!
You must be thinking this is crazy! The first thought people usually have when they think of these marble business cards is that it must be heavy, fragile, and impractical.
Then again, many people thought couch surfing was a terrible business idea, since it was a thing hipsters did. And now we have Airbnb.
In reality, a thought and seeing something is much different. Seeing is believing right? These marble business cards are actually quite sleek and compact. Thickness is about the same as your credit card. So yes, little heavier than your paper business cards and closer to the credit card weight.
Fragility? The back of the business card has a beautiful gold aluminum plate for extra reinforcement.
The question why marble business cards is almost the same as asking why do YOU want to standout in a business environment?
I'm sure many of you have been to a networking event, business function, or client meeting and came home with something like the photo below.
Sure, some people organize it beautifully in a folder. But how many of those cards do you actually revisit? Where do you think your card ends up with that big business prospect?
Wouldn't it be worth it to seem crazy and pass out genuine Italian marble business cards, and be remembered?
MIKOL offers 20 cards for $125.00, which comes out to be $6.25 per card and $950 for 200 cards, which comes out to be only $4.75 per card.
These cards do appear expensive when compared to ordinary paper business cards. But what we forget is the purpose of the business card. It's not just to pass along contact information. Your business prospect must remember you, and remember how to sort through the thousands of other business cards he/she receives to locate you.
Think of it like this, which one is more memorable to you when calling a customer.
"Hi Mr. Smith, this is James, the guy who bought you a cup of coffee"
Or
"Hi Mr. Smith, this is James, the guy with the marble business card"
If you were the customer, which one is easier to remember?
For those of you having doubts on spending $125 for 20 cards, MIKOL is currently offering a promotional deal where you will receive 1 customized business card for FREE! All you need to do is pay for shipping.
Hope this provides a new perspective.

We live in an era where life is wonderful, filled with an abundant supply of fabulous options. Whether it's food, travel, accommodation, fashion, tech accessory options and so on.
However, with so many options, certain products can become a bit of a blur to people. Think about how so many people compare "Coca cola & Pepsi" or "In and out and Shake Shack"? Which option is better? There isn't a clear-cut winner.
At MIKOL we strive to be different and stand out. There are so many fantastic fashion accessory companies that produce amazingly designed products. Each having their own strengths and style of course.
Marble and granite has been the base of MIKOL products and we continue to refine this natural stone material to its furthest possible extent.
We have a very special processing technique that cuts the marble to 0.7mm thick (which is about the same thickness of your credit card) and carefully reinforced with a micro fiberglass webbing to reinforce its strength.
As you can see, the marble is not only thin but has some flexibility to it as well, which is mind blowing to many people even in the industry.
Most of you are used to marble like the above photo: heavy, thick, cold, and sturdy.
So a lot of times when people receive our products, they think it's too light and not cold which makes them question whether it's real marble or not. And we love it! Why?! Because it shows that we are able to produce a product that blows people away! This is EXACTLY what we want you to experience! We want you to experience the difference of truly having a unique product.
By creating something unique and unheard of to most means we are doing our job correctly. Think about it this way, anything thick is going to be heavy, whether it's paper, metal or marble. Why is it that people are more willing to accept that a 1" metal plate can be heavy while 1mm metal plate will not be heavy, but when it comes to marble, the concept becomes harder to believe.
Only reason they feel it is not real marble is because they’ve never experienced real marble this way! The reason why marble is typically cold is because it has more mass to absorb temperature. But when you have the marble at 0.7mm thick, that mass is gone!
And logically, who wants their iPhone 6 or iphone 7 to feel like a brick after putting on a marble case?
We are here to create value through distinction, by taking marble's natural beauty and aesthetic elements, while removing its flaws such as fragility and weight!

Marble has been around for centuries, adding flare and luxury to the rich and famous estates. Nowadays, with advanced processing technology, there has been a lot more replicas of engineered marble trying to replace the real deal. Not only man-made faux marble but also imitation quarries from around the world.
With over 40 years in manufacturing stone, we often see consumers and even experienced industry professionals be fooled by a lower quality product sold as the original.
With the rise and popularity of natural marble products these days, we have seen a lot of scams on the market that wholesalers or new brands may not be aware of when purchasing from China manufacturers. For example, many times we see Chinese white marble being marketed as Italian Carrara white marble.
Italian Carrara Marble Slab
The above marble slab is the famous Italian Carrara marble from Carrara which has been specified from thousands of prominent projects and products around the world.
Chinese Carrara White Marble Slab
This photo above is a white marble slab from China that many Chinese stone factories try to sell off as the Italian Carrara marble. Many consumers, wholesalers, and even smaller brands not in the industry are often fooled by these factories, especially with products as small as a marble iPhone case with an attractively low price. It's like what mama always said, "you pay for what you get".
Consumers are often fooled by the white stone with grey veins but it's much more than that when it comes to differentiating between Carrara White and "carrara white". Knock offs from China are inevitable. Even the largest brands in the world face this problem, but our purpose is to educate the mass and help them make a proper decision.
So here are 3 essential steps to identifying where the marble is from:
Marble Veins
Every marble has it's own distinct pattern and veining. As the example above, the Carrara marble has thinner lightning veins that run through the slab. Whereas the Chinese Carrara marble has thicker and more compact veins.
Coloration
Most marble stones have a distinction in the tonality of color. When it comes to white and black base colors, it's a little more difficult. There are many shades throughout the slab, and unless you put two pieces to compare, this sometimes maybe more difficult to differentiate. It helps when combining the look of the base color and pattern of the veins. Again like the example above.
Shine and Sheen
One of the most desirable attributes of marble is its polished shine. The glossiness of each marble can vary, which technically depends on how dense/hard the marble is. Unfortunately, with poor processing quality, even a good piece of marble can come out dull. For this article, let's just focus on marble itself for now! Carrara marble is a denser marble which is capable of holding a great shine to it when processed correctly. Some of the white marbles from China have a more "dull" effect and doesn't have that clean look.
Hope this article can help you determine real marble products from the knock off versions.

Apple has officially launched the new iPhone 7 and ready to redefine the smartphone market yet again. Here’s a peek into the San Francisco launch yesterday.
The upgraded version (11th generation) of Apple iPhone is very similar to the iPhone 6s and 6s plus. In fact, they are the same size but lighter! There are some noteworthy differences that set the bar higher than ever.
For those enthusiasts, you can pre-order the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus on Apple's Website. It's officially available September 16th, 2016.
As for the new iPhone 7 casing. Even though the size of the phone is exactly the same as the iPhone 6s, the camera lens is slightly higher than the previous phones.
So for Apple accessories, there still needs to be some slight modifications.
Above is a sneak preview of the new iPhone 7 marble case that we will be introducing. Instead of a rubber TPU as the previous generation, we have gone with full PU casing that is stronger and sleek.
We have started an early bird pre-order special till end of September, so pre-order your new MIKOL case today! MIKOL should be shipping it's cases by middle of October.

This week MIKOL was featured in Luxury Launches for our Marmi Business Cards Collection! Check out the article below:
"Marble has been taking over the design world for a while now. You’ve seen the marble inspired phone cases, the laptops, the journals, and even the surfboards, but with a few notable exceptions these are mostly marble prints and designs. A San Francisco based design company called Mikol, is changing the game by introducing business cards created from real marble rock.
It’s a pretty wild idea, and at first it makes you picture something outlandish, heavy and overall inconvenient. But in reality, the marble business cards are actually quite sleek and compact. Presumably, they will be much heavier than the average cardstock business card, but they’re also unique and pretty memorable.
Like any business card, they advertise your name and contact details, and a logo if you have one. For VIP clients, the company is even willing to seek out particular colors or designs to create custom business cards. Although, even if you decide to opt for one of their stock colors of black (Nero Marquina), white (Carrara White) and beige (Light Emperador), rest assured each card is as good as a custom piece as no two cards will have the same marbling design.
Mikol offers twenty marble business cards (in any color) for $125, but the more you buy the cheaper they are with 200 cards priced at $950. Mikol also incorporates marble into other items including notebooks, phone cases, cufflinks and bow ties. If marble is not to your taste though, check out other unorthodox options including carbon fibre and even an ultra-luxe custom design studded with diamonds."
