Consider These 6 Things Before You Decide To Rent a House

Owning a place that is yours and yours only is a dream for many people. Unfortunately, often it is just that, a dream and a very nice thought. The current housing market is not in a very good place for most people, and that keeps ruining these dreams. This is why more and more people stick to renting a place until the housing situation gets better. That will, hopefully, be sooner than later if there are no more global catastrophes.

Luckily, finding a good place to rent is not as hard to do as one might think. It does require you to do your research and be very thorough. It is better to invest time now than have regrets later and start all over again. It is very easy to narrow down choices when you have a set of standards you want to follow. With these 6 tips, you will be able to make these standards and decide which house is perfect for renting.

1. Balcony

We spend way too much time inside and we need to escape that space every once in a while. This escape is much easier when you have a balcony where you can relax. There are plenty of modern-styled terrace houses that really make staying at home more enjoyable. We have seen the negative effects of staying indoors for too long during the pandemic. Everyone wished they could have just a bit more space than just the same old rooms.

2. Pets

As a pet owner, your biggest concern is probably if the house accepts pets. Unfortunately, that always depends on the landlord’s policies, no matter if it is a smaller or bigger pet. It is often not a good idea to try and hide the pet if the place does not allow it. If the website does not say anything about pets, contact the landlord and ask them. It is always better to ask and not wait for unpleasant surprises.

3. Neighborhood

It is not just about the house, it is about the houses that surround your potential place. Its neighborhood can either make or break a deal due to many reasons. You do not want to live in a place where people are not pleasant and look at you with ill intent.

You do not want to rent a house in a place where all the shops are pretty far away. It is always important to check the neighborhood and not only the house itself. Make sure to ask previous tenants about the place and their experiences with the neighbors.

4. Commute

You must check how well the house is connected to the rest of the city. People often settle for houses close to the city for a smaller commute. However, this raises the price quite high for a much smaller house.

If the place is a bit more far away and has great public transport, you can save much more money. With better transportation, you can save a lot of money you would otherwise spend on a car. However, if you have kids, watch out not to be too far away from the school.

5. Energy Efficiency

If the rent is too good to be true, it often really is too good. Besides the rent, you need to think about other factors that contribute to monthly costs. This includes the electricity bill, which can be quite high in energy-inefficient homes.  Heating and power will probably become a bit pricey in the following months.

Getting a home that supplies itself with renewable energy is also a great trait. It is important to check how the insulation is holding up if you want to keep the temperature constant. Make sure to check if there are no other damages to walls that can add more costs to the house. Old windows and leaky roofs are also a big liability you want to avoid.

Making sure you have the right window coverings will determine if your home is energy efficient. Consider installing energy efficient pvc plantation shutters, PVC Shutters offer the highest insulating value when compared to aluminum shutters. Aluminum reflects sunlight and is conductive meaning they will get quite hot to touch in summer, and cold in winter. This will radiate inwards in summer, when compared to PVC which is a thicker material. Aluminum shutters are also much more expensive, and are better suited to outdoor areas.

6. The Landlord

People really do not like landlords, and many of them are unfortunately unpleasant. But, some people are quite nice and it is important to stick to them. It is much better to pay more and have a pleasant landlord. It is not worth sacrificing your mental health for a bit cheaper rent. These relationships can also have a bad reputation on your next renting experience. Landlords keep track of their tenants and usually tell other landlords what they are like.

Setting up your own standards is pretty important for anything in life. Unfortunately, these stands can only have an effect on some of the things in your life, not the housing market. People want to make you believe that you are the master of your fate, but most of us are not.

How free are we when the people with the most money dictate who gets to have money? This is a topic for another time but sure is important to remember when thinking about renting. With these 6 tips, you will be able to make this whole thing so that you do not make a mistake when choosing a house.
