10 Simple Fashion Tips For Men

Iphone Case lifestyle

Being a lifestyle photographer, my job enables me to travel around the world. My adventures have allowed me to witness many different fashion styles from various cultures and parts of the world.

There are your cultural styles which may seem strange to outsiders, but that's more of a cultural factor.  Then there are countries who try to embrace modern day fashion by just buying big name brands.  The problem is they lack the "fashion sense" and end up mismatching their outfits. It usually screams "I'm wearing this brand name so I'm stylish". Big no no.

Men’s fashion (at least for average men) should be really safe and easy. There are only a few basic rules to go by unless you're a fashion guru.

Here are a few simple tips to follow to avoid being someone else's next snapchat feature.

1. Blank t-shirts

You can't go wrong with a basic blank t-shirt!  The number of men who don’t realize that simple fact is tremendous. It's pretty hard to screw up a blank shirt and jeans.  If you are just starting off, go with a well fitted blank shirt.

2. Advance T-shirt Game

If you want to be a bit more adventurous, and receive a little more attention.  Up your T-shirt game with brighter vibrant colors. (Don't overdo it though! You aren't a celebrity)

Slowly move up the latter with striped, some cool prints, maybe ripped a little. Again, jeans and khakis are always a safe choice to match these shirts.

3. Dress Shirts

There are sooooo many nice dress shirt styles out there. Since we are only focusing on the basics, let's stick to the simple clean cut styles.

If you want to appear more proper, tuck your shirt in with a nice skinny tie or bow tie.  Tie clips add a nice touch in making you look more classy.

If it's a more casual environment say a lounge or networking event.  Feel free to untuck your dress shirt and roll up your sleeves a little.  Or if you still want to stay classy but appear casual, add a nice set of cufflinks into the mix.  People will notice when you hold up your drink or shake their hands. Atleast fashionable people notice these little details.

4. No prints on your jeans.

If you're reading this, you aren't in your teens nor Justin Bieber.  Try to stay away from printed denim jeans.  Little ripped up and what now is ok since that's in right now.  But unless you know what you're doing, or you are just so far out there, let's keep it a tad bit simpler with the jeans.

5. Socks Game

A lot of people miss this part, but socks are a huge part of your wardrobe.  Get creative here! I personally love the brand Happy Socks! They have the coolest and most whacky designs.  It's good because most people don't see your socks, maybe only a glimpse.  And when the time comes, you can lift up your pants and show off those crazy styles!

6. Don’t tuck your dress shirt into your pants.

For the most part, you will appear more casual and confident if you don't tuck in your pants. Think about your stereotypical nerd look. Most of the time they have their pants tucked in.  Again, this is not a rule of thumb. I sometimes tuck my shirt in my pants depending on the look I'm going for.

7. Definitely, don't tuck your t-shirt into your pants!

It's very hard to pull this one off. Most people look very foolish or dorky.  Unless you're a muscular martial arts action star like Jean-Claude Van Damme, it's quite hard to pull off.

8. Manikan Referral

Whenever in doubt, refer to the store's manikin styles. Yes, the stores are trying to push their suggestions, but they also won't go too far off.  As a store, they need to please the general crowd, so they will generally put together something safer for you to view. You can use that as a basis.

Lastly, if you are truly in doubt. Just ask a woman. =)

9. Accessories

Details are very important in fashion.
People tend to notice items such as timepieces, necklaces, rings, bracelets, and so on.
A list celebrity Johnny Depp loves his accessories, and does it very well! If you look at him, he's always well accessorized.  Of course, we aren't all a superstars like Johnny Depp.
A simple watch could be as inexpensive as a MVMT watch to your Patek Philippe depending on your budget.
Necklaces are always popular. You could go with simple style chain, cross, animal, pendant, dog tag, leather, etc depending on your style and budget.
Bracelets have really been on the rise recently.  Leather bracelets from Bottega Veneta and Tiffany's have been quite popular. If you are a natural stone person like us, there are plenty of stone bead bracelets with charms that bring out a stylish zen feel.
Lastly, rings! Having one or two rings could be nice, but don't go overboard where you seem like a pickup artist.  Again, unless you are a superstar status and can pull off that feel, let's go easy on the rings.

10. Colours.

Go with simple colors to be safe. Find your favorite colors and shine! Try to notice what colors are in at the moment. As the trending colors tend to change every season.

When in doubt, you can always ask a woman.  It's also a great conversation starter ;)
